It's summer, the season of music festivals. Best time of the year to enjoy ice-cream or soda. Best time of the year to spend time outdoors, to wear light clothes, to have "good clean fun" with friends. Everyone Everywhere is an american indie rock band from Philadelphia PA who can't deny the influences of noisy lo-fi indie bands like Dinosaur Jr/Sebadoh on one side, and of later midwest emo bands like Rainer Maria, (early) Appleseed Cast, Brandtson, Mineral or Promise Ring on the other.
They can write energetic, melodic and emotional songs with powerful (sometimes) distorted guitars and rhythms. They have two eps out and they just released a self-titled debut lp. They are efficient but most of their songs never escape the commonplace of the genre, and certainly the constant speed doesn't help, no place is left for building tension. Sometimes the singer has his moments but not more than the best instants of a This Town Needs Guns. At best on this debut lp, Everyone Everywhere makes you nostalgic of their influences, they sadly never cross the line of a new territory.
I definitely enjoyed listening to this record two or three times while doing something else (driving the car, washing dishes) but none of these songs has requested my attention for more in-depth exploration. Instead I'm wondering where are my American Football or Mineral records. So far Everyone Everywhere failed at creating something original, strong and personal but anyway they are refreshing and convincing and maybe they are not wanting something else than teenage summer exuberance.
